Raf'at al-Assad dismissed from Ba'ath Party
Syria, Politics, 2/13/1998
Ba'ath Party leadership in Syria circulated a decision dismissing former Syrian Vice-President Raf'at al-Assad from the party, in which he was a member of the Regional Leadership.
The Ba'ath Party does not permit any dismissed member to rejoin it, a fact which means the Ba'ath Party has severed relations with Raf'at al-Assad, who lives in Damascus.
It was only a few days ago that Syrian President Hafez al-Assad relieved his brother Raf'at of his post as vice-president.
