Sudanese vice- President killed along with seven officials

Sudanese Vice-President al-Zubeir Muhammad Saleh was killed on Thursday in a plane crash in southern Khartoum. Also killed in the crash were two senior Sudanese officials: Mousa Sayed Ahmad, the director of the higher peace council and Arouk Toun Arouk, a signatory to al-Khartoum peace agreement in 1997.
A Sudanese official statement confirmed the death or wounding of several Sudanese seniors in the accident. The statement said that seven of the plane's passengers were rescued, but al-Zubeir and other seven Sudanese officials were killed.
Among the survivors were the state's information minister, al-Tayeb Ibrahim Kheir, and the plane's six-member crew. No information was reported about the other passengers on the plane, which was loaded with 50 passengers.
Among the victims were Timouti Toulan, governor of the Upper Nile state; al-Saleh office director Jamal Faqiri; Senior official at the Sudanese presidency al-Fateh Nour Bin Kabir; director of the Islamic Call organization Abdul Salam Suleiman; leader of Bour faction, which signed a peace accord with Khartoum in April 1997, Arouk Toun Arouk; and Sudanese journalist and TV photographer, Hashemel-Haj and al-Hadi Sayed Ahmad respectively.
