Jordan blames Israel for impeding peace
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 2/13/1998

Jordan's Prime Minister Dr. Abdul-Salam al-Majali received the Director General of Israel's Foreign Ministry, Eitan Bentsur, who visited Jordan for several hours yesterday. They reviewed the developments in the regional situation, particularly the ones related to the Middle East peace process and the Iraqi crisis.

Majali told the Israeli official that Israelis speak of peace but they did not translate their words into actions. Prime Minister Majali gave Israel full responsibility for creating obstacles to impede the peace process.

Majali asked Israel to try to rebuild confidence with Palestinians so that they could overcome the obstacles. "Israel should create positive attitudes, particularly with Palestinians to ensure their rights in accordance with the signed agreements," he urged.

The Israeli visitor said that his nation was eager to achieve peace, "Israel tries hard to promote relations with Jordan," he said.

The Iraqi governmental crisis was among the other subjects both sides reviewed.
