Two new groups join truce in Algeria
Algeria, Politics, 2/12/1998

Two new groups in Algeria announced that they will join a cease fire with the government: the El-Ansar contingent, which practice its activities in Moftah region and the Death contingent in El-Sharabah near the Algerian capital.

The two groups demanded in a statement for the Algerian authorities to release the imprisoned leaders of the Islamic Salvation Front, Abassi Medani who is under house arrest and Ali Ben Hajaj who is in prison.

Meanwhile, sources close to the Islamic Salvation Army confirmed that there are already communications between the Algerian army and the front's armed elements, a claim denied by the Algerian army.

The sources said the governments' denial of communications with the ISA did not prevent the ISA from communicating with several armed groups to persuade them to accept the truce in most of the Algerian regions.
