Prosecution in coup plot demands blackout
Qatar, Judicial, 2/12/1998
A Qatari security source informed ArabicNews.com that in the case of 110 defendants in a coup attempt that was thwarted by the Qatari authorities in 1996 has demanded the utmost secrecy in the trial's sessions to achieve justice.
The general prosecutor wrote a petition to the criminal court, which resumed its examination of the case in the presence of 70 defendants Wednesday.
The general prosecutor said that there are about 10 witnesses in the case whose testimonies will be heard by the court in several sessions in such a way that each witness gives his testimony in the absence of the other witnesses.
Yesterday the criminal court started a public hearing and will decide whether to accept or reject the prosecutor's request.
The accused will be defended by 17 advocates.
