Egypt, Judicial, 2/12/1998
Egyptian Minister of the Interior Lt. Gen. Habib al-Adli on Tuesday stressed that the government should not maintain a dialogue with Islamist groups saying that it will legitimize them. He added "There'll never be a dialogue with them because it will give them a new impetus."
In a statement at the US chamber of commerce in Cairo al-Adli said the appeal of certain "Islamic groups" leadership to maintain a dialogue is but a sign that "they are in plight."
Meantime an Egyptian security source said on Tuesday that the authorities freed during the two past weeks 450 prisoners who were arrested in cases linked to acts of violence, but it was "proved they have no connection with terrorism. The sources added most of the freed people are elderly or sick who were not found guilty.
