Strong words from Britain on Israeli practices
Israel, International, 2/12/1998

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs British Derek Fatchett has said that Israel has to implement previous agreements and carry out further troop redeployment in the Palestinian territories.

In a televised interview Wednesday, Fatchett added that during his recent visit to Israel, he criticized the expansion of the Jewish settlements and called for the implementation agreements.

He said that the world could not remain idle, and the Israelis should know they could not paralyze the world as it moves toward a peaceful solution, which is the only way that it makes progress.

Fatchett said the majority in Israel support peace, "The only way to achieve peace is through the peace process and serious negotiations which are in the interest of all of us."

He said Britain and the European Union would continue with efforts to achieve progress in the peace process.
