European delegation resumes talks with Algerian officials
Algeria, International, 2/12/1998

The European delegation is resuming its meetings with Algerian officials. It has met with Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and presented to him the possibility of forming a committee to investigate terrorism.

ArabicNews.com was informed that the Algerian minister did not give a final decision regarding this matter, and he will present the idea to President Zeroual and the minister of interior.

A dispute took place among the members of the European delegation due to Daniel Kohain Bendates' controversial statements about the deputy leader of the prohibited Islamic Salvation Front, Sheikh Ali Ben Haj who is currently imprisoned.

El-Khabar newspaper reported that Kohain said, "I want to converse with the prohibited Islamic Salvation Front, but this does not mean that I agree with this party. I am against religious interference in politics. I only want to get acquainted with their ideas and the way they think."
