Jordanian opposition holds solidarity rally with Iraq
Jordan, Politics, 2/11/1998

Jordanian opposition parties have strongly condemned the US military troops massing to launch a strike against Iraq, at a time when the US supports and encourages Israel in its violation of international legitimacy resolutions.

In a solidarity rally with Iraq held on Tuesday, the assistant secretary-general of the Baath Party, head of the higher coordination committee of the Jordanian opposition parties, Dr. Fuad Dabbour delivered a speech in which he said the US ignores continuous Israeli aggressions against the occupied Arab lands, supports the Israeli-Turkish military alliance and intensifies the embargo imposed on the people of Iraq.

The parties called for halting normalization with Israel, reactivating the Arab boycott, expelling Israeli ambassadors and closing Israeli offices and stressing Iraq's security and unity.

The parties also called for condemning the Israeli-Turkish military alliance, supported by the US. The Jordanian head of the Engineers Union strongly condemned the official Jordanian position which he said supported aggression against Iraq and Jordan's participation in the US-Israeli-Turkish maneuvers in the Mediterranean. Other speeches called for adopting a united Arab stand against this aggression.
