Tunisian President for ending Israeli occupation
Tunisia, Politics, 2/11/1998

Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Bin Ali on Tuesday called upon the international community, Middle East peace process cosponsors and the European Union to intensify efforts to force Israel to commit itself to international resolutions and the land for peace formula and to withdraw its forces from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, south Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement, the Tunisian president said the peace process, which has reached a critical situation due to Israeli policy, is an international duty that necessitates more international efforts to force Israel to implement the signed treaties and honor international legitimacy resolutions and peace principles until a just and comprehensive peace is established.

Ali, moreover, rejected any military strike against Iraq. He called for a diplomatic solution to the Iraqi crisis within the framework of international legitimacy and respecting countries' sovereignty.
