US providing Israel anti-biological weapons

Informed sources in Israel said that US air links are providing Israel with anti-biological weapons, equipment, medicine, gas masks and suits, protection for the Israelis against any possible Iraqi raid.

These sources said the US administration will provide operators for such equipment and any maintenance needed and the equipment will be returned to the US after the current crisis cools down.

Israeli government sources said that US donations do not come in return for Israeli pledges not to retaliate for any raids from Iraq. On the contrary, Israel rejected the US request for Israeli self-control and non-retaliation against any Iraqi raids. The Israeli government issued an official statement in which it refused such a request.

The Israeli government and leader of the Labor Party Ehud Barak also criticized US Secretary of Defense William Cohen when he said that the pentagon asks for Israel's self-control, saying that Israel has a right to defend itself and that the US has no right to ask such a thing of Israel.
