Sudan: Ethiopia attacks Sudanese borders
Sudan, Military, 2/10/1998

Sudanese authorities said that Sudanese coalition opposition forces attacked a garrison in the province of Al-Kadaref near the Sudanese - Ethiopian borders.

A Sudanese government official also stated that Sudanese land was hit by heavy artillery shelling from Ethiopia.

The Sudanese authorities released no comments on the incident except for the statement released by Heath Minister Mohammed Ahmed El-Hadi to a local radio station in the Al-Ghallayet province, but El-Hadi gave no details on the attack or the number of victims. He called on Sudanese citizens to be cautious and to donate blood to confront the new situation.

Earlier the opposition coalition said it killed 91 Sudanese government soldiers during an attack Saturday on a garrison in Gjezirat-dor in southern Al-Ghallayat province.

El-Hadi said that the armed forces and civil defense in Sudan have confronted the aggressors.
