Moroccan prime minister contacts parties to form government
Morocco, Politics, 2/10/1998

Abdel Rahaman El-Yussefi, the newly-appointed Moroccan prime minister, made communications with partners of the party within the opposition to obtain the support of a majority of deputies for programs that will later be presented before the deputies council.

The Independent Party hasn't shown any readiness to participate in the government even while acknowledgining El-Youssfi's appointment as prime minister as an important event. Mohammed Bostta, the head of the party said, "We are negotiating to reach an agreement, thus I'm optimistic, and we'll do our best to find a solution through enhancing the participation of the Independent Party in the government."

European sources in Cairo supported the appointment of the opposition leader as prime minister, saying it's part of democracy and exchanging authority.
