Iraqi newspaper launches attack on Kofi Annan

The Iraqi Revolution newspaper criticized United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan's silence regarding American threats to use force against Iraq and asked him to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

The newspaper, which speaks on behalf of the ruling party, said it is Annan's first duties are to call for peace, to the solve international problems in peaceful ways.

The newspaper said, "We did not hear the secretary-general condemning working outside the United Nations' frame and goals but we heard him referring to the seventh chapter of the charter, which allows resorting to force."

The Gomhoria government newspaper said that Arab streets are getting ready for an uprising and that Arab governments will find themselves having to comply with the great march which will start when the Americans launch their attack against Iraq.
