Israel receives soldiers remains from Egypt
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 2/9/1998

Israel has recently received remains of several of its soldiers who were killed in the Arab-Israeli October Liberation war of 1973 on the Egyptian Front.

Israeli army radio said that secret contacts between Israel and Egypt ended with the delivery of the bones and remains of several Israeli soldiers, including pilots. The radio report added that a special envoy from Israeli President Ezer Weizman held frequent meetings and contacts in Cairo over several years, leading to the delivery of the remains of soldiers who were considered lost.

A senior Israeli army officer said he doubted that the remains received by Israel are the real remains of the Israelis, adding the remains have to be sent to a specialized laboratory in Britain to check their identity.
