Arafat communique Assad, Palestinian opposition
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 2/9/1998
The Jordanian daily Arabs Today quoted the representative of the Palestinian government, Omar al-Khatib, as saying in Amman that the Palestinian delegation who arrived Damascus on Sunday night, led by the chairman of the PLO Political Department, Farouk al-Qaddoumi, carries an important communique to President Hafez al-Assad from Palestinian President Yasser Arafat concerning the peace process developments and latest developments reached in negotiations on the Palestinian track.
Al-Khatib said the message contains a call to convene an urgent Arab summit to discuss latest developments in the region. The paper quoted well-informed Palestinian sources as saying that the delegation will meet with leaders of Palestinian opposition groups taking Damascus as a headquarters in order to discuss means of strengthening Palestinian national unity and reviving PLO institutions.
