Algerian Salvation Army asks for release of Front's leaders
Algeria, Politics, 2/9/1998

The chairman of the Algerian Islamic Salvation Army, the Armed wing of the banned Islamic Salvation Front, asked the Algerian authorities to release all the arrested front's leaders and gave the government a window of two weeks to implement his demands before the ISA resumes military operations.

Negotiations between the ISA and the Algerian authorities failed to achieve any progress concerning the case of the detained leaders, while the government refused to grant pardons to ISA members who fled from prison sentences.

Meanwhile, the Algerian National Association decided to establish a high popular court to try Abdel Hamid Ibrahimi, the previous Algerian prime minister. The association accused Ibrahimi of betraying the Algerian people and stirring up disturbances among Algerians. It has described Ibrahimi's statements to the media as supporting foreign interference in Algerian affairs.
