Palestine negates reports of military preparations against Israel
Palestine, Politics, 2/6/1998

A high-level Palestinian security source has denied reports of Palestinian arrangements for a confrontation with Israel, saying this news is untrue.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said this news comes within an Israeli propaganda campaign aimed at weakening the Palestinian position locally and internationaly.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz said the Palestinians are saving anti-tank missiles and mines made in the self-rule areas, and equipment to build sites fortified with cement and digging trenches around the cities affiliated to the self-rule areas, especially in Napoli in the northern West Bank.

Many clashes took place in September, 1996 between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian police officers, due to which 80 people, most of them Palestinians, were killed when Israeli opened a tunnel near El-Aqsa in East Jerusalem.
