Siemens wins Egyptian telecommunications contract

The German Siemens Electronics company said it has won a contract worth 1 billion Deutchemarks from the national commission for telecommunications in Egypt.
In a statement, Siemens said the contract will provide the Egyptian commission with digital transfer technology, adding that the general communication network group in Siemens OIN will implement the contract.
The company added that Egypt at present has 6 telephone lines for every 100 persons and the company intends within five years to reduce that ratio to one telephone line for every 10 persons.
