A US $2 million donation for economic reform
Jordan, Economics, 2/6/1998

An agreement was signed by Jordanian Minister of Planning Dr. Reema Khalaf and the director of USAID yesterday at the Ministry of Economics in Amman.

According to the agreement the US administration donated $2 million to support economic reforms in Jordan.

"This agreement is considered a starting point for a four-year program to support economic reforms to be carried out by Jordanian government," a Ministry of Planning source said. The projects focus on three important areas: commerce, investment and financial legislation and specialization, he added.

The finance would be used in providing technical assistance and training to Jordanian establishments to improve their abilities to specify and execute the reform of economic policies.

This is the first in an expected $140 million donation delivered by USAID to Jordan.
