Jordan-Algeria, Politics, 2/6/1998
Crown Prince Hassan yesterday in Amman received Algerian Minister of Culture Hamrawi Habbib Chaouki, the Algerian government's spokesman.
The Algerian minister carried a communique from Algerian President Liamine Zeroual to Jordan's King Hussein. It concerned bilateral relations between Algeria and Jordan and methods of improving them in all aspects.
Crown Prince Hassan discussed with the minister bilateral relations between Jordan and Algeria. They also reviewed the efforts being made to contain the crisis between Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and the UN concerning free access for UNSCOM inspectors to all suspected sites in Iraq, particularly the presidential palaces.
Jordan is eager for a peaceful solution to be found, the Crown Prince confirmed, to end the standoff which threatens peace in the Middle East.
"Jordan's leadership and people, support the Algerian people to overcome the problems they face," he told the Algerian minister, who reaffirmed that bilateral relations were solid.
The meeting was attended by the chief of Royal Divan, the minister of culture and youth and the Algerian ambassador to Amman.
