Israeli warplanes attack targets in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 2/5/1998

Israeli warplanes on Wednesday attacked a valley in southern Lebanon used by guerrillas to launch attacks on an Israeli-occupied border enclave, security sources said.

Four Israeli jets fired eight missiles in six runs over the village of Zillaya south of eastern Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, but there were no reported casualties. The targeted area is less than ten kilometers north of the occupied zone.

The sources said Lebanese army troops stationed in the region and Hizbullah guerrillas opened anti-aircraft fire on the raiding jets, without making any direct hits.

It was the fifth Israeli air raid this year. The last raid was on Sunday, when Israeli warplanes attacked Hizbullah bases in the village of Aqmata in Iqlim al-Tuffah.

Meanwhile Hizbullah guerrillas on Wednesday targeted an Israeli outpost in south Lebanon with machine guns and mortars.

A Hizbullah statement said its fighters attacked Israeli troops in the position of Zoumarayya, scoring direct hits.
