The latest security developments in Algeria

The security situation in Algeria is still witnessing escalation on both sides of the fight, while army units are trying to carry out extensive operations to pursue the terrorists in the different regions.

Eyewitnesses informed ArabicNews.com that armed members of the Islamic Salvation Army were seen visiting their families in the central and eastern areas of Algeria, which raised many questions by the people and the self-defense groups.

The veterans of the Algerian Revolution said they filed a complaint with military authorities in Al Medea province over allowing the members of the Bin Hagar Group to move freely in the province.

They added that government officials assured them that those members no longer pose any danger after they agreed to cooperated with the authorities to combat the Armed Islamic Group. It is known that the Bin Hagar Group joined the truce reached by the Islamic Salvation Army with the government and that it opposes the leaders of the Armed Islamic Group.

Meanwhile, in the area of Khamis Maliana it was circulated that a group of 10 members of the Islamic Salvation Army, belonging to renowned families in the area, turned themselves in to the government.

Mopping operations carried out by Algerian army units in the province of Askar resulted in killing many of the members of the Platoon of Six. Algerian sources estimated the number of those killed at 65 persons.

Meanwhile, the sources said 10 members of the same family were slain in the suburb of Mahatet Al Kitar in the city of Sabra which is part of the province of Talmasan on the Algerian-Moroccan borders. They added that a bomb exploded in the city of Hanaya in the same province which resulted in 2 deaths and 5 were injured.
