Kuwait agrees to host new American forces
Kuwait, International, 2/4/1998
Arab sources said Kuwait has agreed to allow more US forces into its territory to prepare for a possible military attack.
The sources said US Secretary of Defense William Cohen might visit the Gulf soon to discuss plans for possible military strikes against Iraq.
It has also said the U.S. might send a land force of 1,000 soldiers to join another composed of 1,500 soldiers.
The U.S. keeps large quantities of military equipment in the Kuwaiti deserts, kilometers south of borderlines with Iraq.
An Arab source said that US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright obtained during her visit to Kuwait primary Kuwaiti approval to send more forces. The source added that Albright did not discuss details regarding the American forces and that Cohen's visit will handle it.
