Egyptian nuclear reactor to be inaugurated Wednesday
Egypt, Economics, 2/3/1998

Officials in the Egyptian energy departments said that the capacity of the new Egyptian nuclear reactor that will be inaugurated on this coming Wednesday is 22 thousand kilowatts, and that this capacity is as twice that of the Egyptian reactor inaugurated in 1971.

An Egyptian source said that this new reactor is equipped with advanced security systems, and that a number of specialized Egyptian companies in the fields of electric and mechanical industries participated in building the reactor. These companies manufactured parts of the reactor, foremost of which is the main vessel. The sources added that Egyptian scientists will activate and maintain the reactor at a cost of $30 million.

The president of Argentina, Carlos Menem, will arrive in Cairo on Wednesday where, together with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, will inaugurate the reactor.
