Egypt and Jordan calling for diplomatic solution to Iraqi crisis
Regional-Egypt, Politics, 2/2/1998

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has called on the international community to solve the crisis with Iraq through diplomatic methods. He asked the Iraqi leadership to implement UN Security Council resolutions and to respect international resolutions.

Esmat Abdel Meguid, the secretary-general of the Arab League, said that military force use against Iraq will have dangerous effect on the interests of the major countries in the area, and will be against their stability.

Abdel Meguid received an urgent message from Russian Foreign Minister Yevegny Primakov in which he confirmed that Russia supports a political solution for the dispute between Iraq and the United Nations.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Fayez al-Taraunah, said Jordan is following up with extreme anxiety the crisis with Iraq which led to dangerous escalation in the relationships with the Security Council and the increased tension in the whole area.
