Sudan, International, 1/31/1998

The US. took a decision to freeze a million dollars deposited by the Sudanese Airlines in Gulf banks.

A source in the Sudanese Airlines said the U.S. is encircling Sudan from all sides and that this decision comes within a previous U.S. resolution to freeze Sudanese assets in international banks.

The deputy manager of the Sudanese Airlines, Faisal Mokhtar, added that this amount had been frozen before being transferred to European companies selling spare parts.

He also said there are serious efforts underway by many sides to regain this amount and repay it to the European companies. He added that the Sudanese Airlines informed the European companies of the U.S. decision and that the Sudanese company submitted a request to the international organizations to release this amount immediately.
