Algeria calls for comprehensive cooperation with EU to fight terrorism
Algeria, International, 1/30/1998
Algerian political observers on Wednesday accused the European Union of not having sincere intentions of maintaining full cooperation with Algeria in fighting terrorism.
The observers expressed regret over the EU's recent statement, adding that the EU foreign ministers stressed during their recent meeting the unwillingness of the EU to take part in active cooperation to counter terrorism and to revive Euro-Algerian dialogue concerning the partnership agreement between the two sides.
The observers criticized the EU's position regarding the European "Troika" delegation to Algeria as a key step in proceeding with dialogue comprehensively in issues set in Barcelona symposium, which spoke of economic, social and security issues.
The observers said that the EU undermined this key step through its insistence that Algeria should accept the visit of an UN delegation to investigate the current conditions in the country because of the massacres committed against its civilians.
