Sons of Egyptian women may get Egyptian citizenship!
Egypt, Politics, 1/29/1998

The Committee of Complaints and Suggestions affiliated with the Egyptian People's Assembly (the Parliament) will start heated discussions during hearing sessions over a draft law dealing with granting Egyptian citizenship to the sons of Egyptian women who are married to foreigners.

Representatives from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, and Interior will attend those sessions in addition to some Egyptian women and their sons who are involved in this issue in order to explain their problems.

Those sessions are expected to result in a legislative amendment to the current law dealing with conditions for granting Egyptian citizenship in order to solve a serious problem for hundreds of women.

Egyptian men have no such difficulty in providing citizenship for their children
