Arab League Secretary to visit Britain, Belgium

Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid will visit Britain and Belgium on February 18 - 26.

An official source said Abdul Meguid will discuss with senior British and Belgian officials the European Union role in the peace process and ways of moving it forward.

The source added that Abdul Meguid will also discuss the Lockerbie crisis in light of Arab, African and Muslim rejection of the sanctions imposed on Libya and Libyan readiness to try the suspects in a neutral state. The march of Euro-Arab dialogue, Britain's accommodation of certain extremist elements and causes pertaining to terrorism in the region will also be discussed.

Abdul Meguid will take part in an international conference to be held in Brussels on February 24 - 25, dedicated to discussing issues relating to the rights of the Palestinian people. The conference is organized by the AL in collaboration with the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the International Committee for the Rights of the Palestinian People.
