British foreign secretary to visit Cairo
North Africa, Politics, 1/29/1998

A diplomatic source in London said Wednesday that British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Derek Fatchett will visit Cairo by the beginning of February to discuss the contribution of the European Union, currently headed by Britain, to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

The source expressed hope that the US will collaborate with these efforts to achieve a breakthrough in the stalemated peace process. The sources said the European objective is to offer tangible support and implement obligations incurred under the provisional accords signed between Israel and the Palestinians in 1995, which provide for Israeli military redeployment in the West Bank.
