Mother tortures and attempts to murder her three year old daughter

Aswan criminal court yesterday handed down a two-year prison sentence against a young mother convicted torturing and attempting to murder her three year old daughter, a police source said.

The court was told the accused woman, Labibah Ismail, left the child in a remote sugar cane field to be easy prey for stray animals after burning the girl's limbs in an attempt to kill her, the sources said.

Labibah told the court that the motive behind crime was to get rid of "that illegitimate child, whose father refused to recognize her," the sources said.
