Jordanian Foreign Minister meets Palestinian President
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 1/24/1998

Jordanian Foreign Minister Fayez al-Taraunah in Washington yesterday met with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. They discussed the peace process and bilateral relations between Jordan and Palestine.

"King Hussein ordered me to meet with Palestinian President," Fayez al-Taraunah said. " I told him about Jordanian support for his efforts concerning making progress on the Israeli-Palestinian track," Jordanian Foreign Minister said.

President Arafat briefed me of the conclusions arrived at during his meetings with President Clinton and the senior officials in the US administration, he added.

Arafat reaffirmed his commitment to the Oslo and Hebron agreements so that the two sides, Israelis and Palestinians, could start the final status negotiations, he reported.

"I will discuss with officials in the US administration, particularly in the State Department, the consequences of both Arafat and Netanyahu's visits to Washington," al-Taraunah said.
