Spanish interior minister to meet with Moroccan counterpart
Morocco, Politics, 1/24/1998
The Spanish and Moroccan interior ministers will convene in Morocco during March. This meeting will be within the joint higher committee's work dictated by the "good neighbor" convention between the 2 countries.
Spain's commitment coincides with the establishment of a Spanish private security body to deal with illegal immigrants of African and Moroccan origin, escaping to Spain across the Mediterranean.
A Spanish security spokesman said the necessity of confronting illegal immigration and Spanish security demands had dictated the establishment of this security body.
Jaime Mayor Oreja, the Spanish minister of interior, will meet with Idris El-Basri, the Moroccan minister of interior, the two will examine ways to combat illegal immigration, and ways to initiate signed agreements.
This visit comes after the visit of Abel Matutes, the Spanish foreign minister, to Morocco last week.
