Violent attacks continue in Algeria
Algeria, Military, 1/22/1998

While the European Union delegation was in Algeria to try to find means to put an end to terrorism in Algeria, the terrorist groups continued their violent attacks against civilians. A terrorist group killed 13 Algerians and injured four in an ambush on one of the roads of the Boyera province. Another group killed three Algerians in the village of Beni Wlban in the same province.

Five Algerians were found slain and mutilated in one of the fields, while another terrorist group attacked a cafe in Beni Soliman in Madian with grenades and gunfire which led to two deaths and the injury of 12 others.

A family of six was killed in the area of Al Hamam in the city of Hamasy.

Meanwhile, an armed group called "The Godly Platoon" declared that it will cease its armed operations in the Algerian west as its leader, Sawan Abdel Kader, ordered the members of the organization to stop all operations. It called on the government to release Abbas Medani and all the detainees on top of whom is Aly Belhag.
