The assassination of an Iraqi diplomat in Jordan
Jordan-Iraq, International, 1/21/1998

Iraqi Charge D'Affairs in the Iraqi embassy in Jordan Hekmat Abdel Razak Al Hagwa was assassinated over the weekend together with 6 others at the home of a rich Iraqi citizen. An Iraqi opposition source informed ArabicNews.com that Al Hagwa had been the chief of the intelligence services in the Iraqi Embassy in Kuwait before the Iraqi aggression against Kuwait in August 1990.

The source added that Al Hagwa had been a prominent figure in the Iraqi intelligence service and that he was nominated to be Iraq's ambassador to one of the European countries.

The source elaborated that Al Hagwa came from the area of Al Gamila in Al Ramady province in the west of Iraq. Another opposition member said Al Hagwa was a Kretean and he was married to an Egyptian woman whom he met during his work as consul general in Egypt.

The source said the rich Iraqi citizen in whose home the accident occurred is Samy George, who is a millionaire but he had family problems and had married twice. His first wife was German, the second was Palestinian. Those two marriages wasted a great part of his fortune. At the time of his death, he was not very rich, although he had kept his prestigious mansion in Amman.

The source added that Samy had financial interests with the well-known Iraqi businessman Nazmy Ogy, who had killed his own brother, Thumair.
