People and defense groups succeed in stopping terrorist attacks in Algeria
Algeria, Local, 1/20/1998

Within the continuation of the violent attacks in Algeria, terrorist groups assassinated Monsif Mezaash while the bodies of two slain young men were found in the area of Al Tawila days after the end of their military service.

Meanwhile the people and defense groups together with the armed forces managed to stop a terrorist attack in Dwar Ain Mansour in the Moaskar province. An area near that province had witnessed a massacre some weeks ago in the village of Sefsaf which killed 28 persons.

The commander of the municipal guards unit for Bu Amama district in the city of Wahran said arming the people began immediately after a rumor that there was an imminent terrorist attack against the village. Meanwhile, the people in the province of Golazan confronted 20 terrorists, which compelled the terrorists to escape to nearby mountains.

Meanwhile, an Arab Parliamentary delegation will arrive in Algeria next Wednesday to express its support for the Algerian state and people in their struggle against terrorism and to declare their refusal of the attempts to intervene in Algerian internal affairs. The exceptional meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Union decided to send this delegation after its meeting that was held in Luxor last week.

Meanwhile, after visiting the site of the massacre in Sidi Hamad, the US Ambassador in Algeria, Cameron Hume, called on the Algerian authorities to accept other countries' assistance in combating terrorism within their respect for Algeria's sovereignty and reiterated his country's condemnation of violence.
