Israel commits itself to war not peace, Bahrain's Emir says
Bahrain-Gulf, Politics, 1/20/1998
The Emir of Bahrain, Sheikh Issa Bin Salman, said Israel's leaders are advocates of war rather than peace, and the Israeli government led by Prime Minister Netanyahu does not seek to achieve peace but to destroy it.
In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily as-Seyassah issued on Monday, Sheikh Issa said the Arabs have repeatedly stressed their commitment to the peace process according to principles agreed to at the Madrid conference.
He called for maintaining effective Arab solidarity to deflect Israeli intransigence and reach the peace process's set objectives.
Sheikh Issa also expressed satisfaction over relations between his country and Iran, noting the need for developing these relations in various fields.
He said the Gulf Cooperation Council states find in Iran a neighborly state with whom vast cooperation opportunities are available, and the GCC seeks to promote this cooperation for the interests of the peoples of the region.
