Khartoum expects attacks from neighbors with U.S. support
Sudan, Military, 1/20/1998
Sudanese diplomatic sources said Sudan expects a three-pronged assault across the Ugandan, Eritrean and Ethiopian borders.
Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, Sudan's minister of agriculture and the previous manager of the Sudanese security body, said the Sudanese authorities had seen military movements on the southern and eastern borders of Sudan. He accused the U.S. of supporting these new military groupings by providing them weapons.
He also said that Washington specified last December a date for launching the assault, but disagreements on technical matters concerning battles had delayed the attacks.
He said his government is ready to confront any assaults.
