King Hussein warns against halt of peace
Jordan-Iraq, Politics, 1/20/1998
Disappointment concerning the peace process would lead to the crumbling of everything, King Hussein of Jordan said upon receiving a Swiss media delegation yesterday. "The majority in the Arab World and Israel wants peace to be spread," he added.
Answering a question about the UN sanctions imposed against Iraq after Saddam's forces invaded Kuwait in 1990, King Hussein said that if there were no sanctions things might have changed in Iraq. Iraq might have moved towards pluralism and democracy, he added.
"Iraqi children and people are deprived of medicine and food, but not necessarily those who rule Iraq," he stated.
