Egyptian-Sudanese commerce committee meets for first time

In a continuing show of improved of Egyptian-Sudanese relations, the Egyptian-Sudanese commerce committee met under Egyptian Minister of Commerce Ahmed Goweili and his Sudanese counterpart Osman El-Hadi with the participation of experts to study means of initiating projects between the two countries.
The committee discussed establishing a joint works council for activating trade exchange and renewing the commerce cooperation agreement that was halted by Sudan three years ago.
El-Sayed Abdel-Sattar Eishere, secretary of the commerce union said the Egyptian private sector presented measures to strengthen confidence and the possibility of establishing a free trade zone, enhancing bilateral relations in several fields especially following the opening of the water navigation line between Halfa valley and Aswan. They also discussed means of facilitating aviation travel.
He also said the private sector in Sudan is currently discussing the implementation of several projects in Egypt, where Sudanese investments in the country are about $845 million, of which $248.5 million is in 37 projects, which ranks Sudan number ten among Arab countries investing in Egypt.
