Three Israeli soldiers wounded in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 1/17/1998
Three Israeli soldiers were wounded Friday in a clash in south Lebanon with Lebanese guerrillas, security sources said.
They said the soldiers were wounded in an exchange of fire with guerrillas on the edge of an Israeli-occupied border strip in the south. One Hizbullah guerrilla was also killed in the clash with machine-guns and mortars.
Israeli warplanes later raided Hizbullah strongholds in Iqlim al-Tuffah, which faces the occupied zone. The planes fired a total of four air-to-surface missiles in two sorties over the area, which is often used by the guerrillas to infiltrate the occupied zone. There were no casualties.
The escalation Friday came two days after a booby-trapped video tape exploded at a crossing near the Israeli town of Metulla on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
