Abu Mazen warns of talks' failure
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/17/1998
Mahmoud Abass Abu Mazen, the executive committee secretary for the Palestinian Liberation Organization, has warned of failure for American - Palestinian peace talks between Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and US President Bill Clinton.
He said, "In case of failure, we would not able to make further adjustments in the region," confirming that the Palestinians still adhere to the peace process whether the visit of Dennis Ross, the American peace process envoy, failed or succeeded.
He added that the Palestinians had fulfilled their obligatoins toward the peace process, and must obtain their full rights and that the U.S. is a serious partner exerting efforts to forward the process.
He said, "The Palestinians understand the Israeli security demands, and we are not against estimating Israeli security needs on the condition that it (Israel) does not ignore our legal rights."
He added that the resignation of David Levy, the former Israeli foreign minister, shook Netanyahu's government, but Palestine will continue to cooperate with his government.
