UAE reaffirms Palestinian rights
United Arab Emirates-Palestine, Politics, 1/15/1998

The United Arab Emirates has voiced support for the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate rights and establish their own independent state with Jerusalem as a capital.

The Gulf News Agency said this was expressed during the meeting held between UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hamdan Bin Zayed al-Nahyan with the Secretary General of the PLO executive committe, Mahmoud Abbas, known as Abu Mazin.

Sheikh Hamdan called upon the international community, especially the peace process co-sponsors, to pressure Israel to commit itself to reaching obligations in the course of the peace process and to stop placing obstacles before it, namely to halt the building of Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories and in occupied Jerusalem.

The paper noted that Abu Mazin briefed Sheikh Hamdan on current developments in the Palestinian territories.
