Israel extends the imprisonment term of German prisoner

Tel Aviv District Court decided to keep a German man, charged with planning a suicide attack in Israel, in prison through the end of his trial. The young German is known to be working for Hizbullah.
The Judges refused to release Stephen Joseph Smyrek, 26, temporarily because the charges filed against him are very serious. Among the reasons for this decision, the court said that Smyrek was trying to carry out a suicide attack to enter paradise. It added that this information was provided by Lebanese witnesses and was collected by Israeli security, which had been watching the suspect for a long time.
Smyrek, who embraced Islam, was arrested by the Israeli police on November 28 upon his arrival to the Bin Gordon airport from Amsterdam. Smyrek confessed that he was working for Hizbullah, but his attorney said this confession was extracted through torture.
