King Hussein meets with Palestinian president
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 1/14/1998
King Hussein of Jordan late yesterday night met with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. They discussed Palestine-Israel issues and the latest efforts being made to push the peace process forward.
Arafat discussed with King Hussein the talks recently held with the US special envoy to Middle East peace process, Dennis Ross. Ross aimed to narrow the distance between the Palestinians and Israelis concerning several suspended issues.
Arafat informed King Hussein of the coming talks that US President Clinton will hold separately with Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later this month.
King Hussein reaffirmed the Jordanian attitude supporting Palestinian rights . Hussein refused all acts done to subvert the peace process. Both sides discussed the ways through which they can strengthen bilateral relations.
Crown Prince Hassan, Prime Minister Abdul Salam al-Majali and other senior Jordanian officials attended the meeting.
President Arafat, answering reporters' questions concerning the expected results of his upcoming visit to the USA and meeting with Clinton, said that he hoped President Clinton would be able to convince Netanyahu of keeping this last chance for peace.
