Iraq will resume its oil exports tomorrow
Iraq, Economics, 1/13/1998
Iraqi Minister of Oil Mohamed Mahdi said that Iraq will resume exporting oil tomorrow according to the third phase of the oil for food agreement and Security council resolution No. 986.
The Iraqi Minister added that loading the oil tankers in Al Bakr Iraqi port and the Turkish port of Gehan will start in two days' time. He said that Iraq has already started to pump oil to storage units in Turkey and south of Al Basra city, and the contracts submitted by the Iraqi Minister of Oil were approved by the UN.
The Security Council had agreed on December 4 to extend the agreement through which Iraq exports oil for another 6 months. The Iraqi Minister of oil called on all the oil companies to submit their offers within the third phase of the oil-for-food agreement.
