Jordan: No political motive behind assassination on Iraqi diplomat
Jordan-Iraq, Politics, 1/13/1998
Documents regarding the assassination attempt against Iraq's Trade envoy in Jordan were forwarded to the general attorney of the Great Criminal Court yesterday.
The attempt to assassinate the Iraqi envoy Rahim Taher was carried out on the January 3.
"There were no political motives for the assassination attempt; it was not related to the nature of the diplomat's work or post," a governmental source said. The incident happened over family and financial concerns, he added.
The authorized officials arrested four Iraqis following the attempt, two of whom entered Jordan with false Iraqi passports.
The investigation found that the Iraqi diplomat's father-in-law incited others to kill his son-in-law.
