Spain restores the tombs of its soldiers in Morocco
Morocco, History, 1/12/1998

Spanish sources said that the Madrid government allocated millions of pesos for the restoration of the tombs of Spanish soldiers in a number of northern cities in Morocco. It added that 10 million pesos were allocated to restore tombs in cities including Asila, Tawan, Al Kasr Al Kabir, and Al Hosaima.

The restoration plan also includes moving the remnants of the bodies of the Spanish soldiers buried in tombs at Tarjest and Kwatrotoris in northern Morocco to tombs in Al Hosaina.

The sources added that moving the remnants of the bodies comes as a result of the historical value of the city of Al Hosaina, which witnessed the landing of the French-Spanish forces in 1921 which had put an end to the war of Anwal in Morocco against the Moroccan forces led by Abdel Karim Al Khataby. This war was called by the military experts the first popular war, and it led to thousands of Spanish deaths.
