Principal convict in the explosions in Eden is a Syrian outlaw
Yemen-Syria, Politics, 1/12/1998
Syrian sources in Egypt informed ArabicNews.com that the principal suspect who masterminded the recent explosions in Aden is a Syrian citizen, Nabil Menaqly, (not Nankly as reported before), who was born in Syria and has Spanish citizenship.
The sources added that Nabil Menaqly belongs to the Group of Adnan Aqla which has dissented from the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood Group. At that time the Group of Adnan Aqla, known as the Fighting Pioneers, believed in armed struggle against the Yemeni government.
The activities of the Fighting Pioneers ended after the government succeeded in getting Adnan Aqla out of Jordan to Syria where he was arrested. Adnan was living in Jordan and moved to Yemen two years ago as a representative of a Spanish cosmetic company.
After the disappearance of the leader of the Fighting Pioneers, most of his followers scattered in Europe while a few remained in Jordan. The members of this group are known for their intellectual extremism that turned into violence.
They oppose the Muslim Brotherhood and describe them as weak. Some of them had fundamentalist tendencies and the tendency to describe others as apostates. Many of them reject the democratic and political process and insist on armed struggle as they believe that it is the only way to establish an Islamic regime.
